The Trust is pleased to have started off the school year with our new colleagues, who have ensured a strong position to begin the term.

Spencer Academies Trust is pleased to welcome the following colleagues to our family of schools.

Johnny Yip and Matt Taylor have joined the operations team as IT engineer and Director of Strategic ICT and Infrastructure, respectively.

Mr Yip applied for the role after moving to Derby from Hong Kong and settling his family, having many years’ experience in IT. He enjoys table tennis, video games and movies.

Andrew Adams, Head of Operations, said, “Johnny has already proven himself to be a strong asset to the Trust. We are happy to have him as part of our team and look forward to continue working with him.”

Mr Taylor has worked within IT for his entire professional life, specialising in its impact on education. “I’ve dedicated my professional life to the ever-evolving convergence of IT and Education,” he said. “From the age of 18, I’ve been immersed in the IT world, and over the years, my journey has led me to a fulfilling role as an IT Director at Spencer Academies Trust. I am passionate about harnessing technology to enhance learning experiences and drive innovation in education. My commitment to these fields has been a constant source of inspiration and accomplishment in my career.”

CEO Paul West said, “We are delighted to welcome Matt to the Trust, in the newly created role of Director of ICT Strategy & Infrastructure. Matt brings a wealth of experience and a strong track record of leading transformational change in the Education ICT Sector. Matt will be leading on all aspect of Tech provision, we are looking forward to working with him.”

Adam Rowland has joined the Trust as a regional catering manager after working in roles relating to behaviour management and therapeutic intervention at Portland Spencer Academy. “As part of my nurturing routes I ran cooking classes for the children up to five days a week and this gave me some insight in to the catering elements of the schools,” he explained. “During the month of July 2023 I saw an advert for my current position. I was fortunate to already know the catering department, and this made me feel much more confident to step forward and apply to be interviewed. The fabulous ladies have welcomed me into the team so graciously and have supported me to settle in nicely.”

“Adam joined us at the central team to support our academies across Derby and Nottingham after deciding to make a change, and we are thrilled to have him,” said Tanya Flinders, Trust Catering Operations Manager. “He has been a ray of sunshine since joining our team!”
