Clover Leys Spencer Academy holds official opening ceremony
Clover Leys Spencer Academy celebrated its grand opening last month with a Halloween-themed fun fair and official ribbon-cutting ceremony, bringing together pupils, parents, staff and the local community for an afternoon of spooky festivities!
The day saw pupils take part in a range of activities, including pumpkin-carving, face-painting, penalty shootouts and burying a time capsule of artwork, along with performances from the children in the school hall. Children also dressed up in creative costumes, with themes ranging from classic witches and superheroes to imaginative DIY designs, adding a special touch to the community celebration.
In addition to the fun and games, parents also had the opportunity to tour the new facilities, including the spacious classrooms and well-equipped sports, arts and play areas. The school’s new amenities and green spaces reflect its commitment to providing a vibrant and dynamic environment for learning and play.
The build has been underway since August 2023, while pupils at Clover Leys were sharing a site with sister school, Chellaston Fields Spencer Academy, as they awaited their brand-new school to be completed.
The school has been built by Morgan Sindall Construction, through collaboration with project manager Concertus, Derbyshire County Council and SCAPE with representatives from each in attendance on the day, alongside Councillor Alex Dale, Principal Rebecca Chapman, and Spencer Academies Trust Director of Primary Education Kate Green.
Rebecca Chapman, Principal at Clover Leys, expressed her pride in welcoming families to their brand-new, state-of-the-art school: “We were delighted to welcome Boulton Moor community to our first fundraising event – celebrating not only the opening of the school but some spooky fun for Halloween. Our dressing up competition and pumpkin carving competition encouraged our children and families to get creative and our Autumn stalls raised over £500. The children of Clover Leys Spencer Academy also produced some amazing artwork which was buried in our time capsule – moments that can be shared years later. We look forward to building years of happy learning and memories as we start the journey in our new school.”
Kate Green, Director of Primary Education, also shared the excitement: “It was a pleasure to see Clover Leys hold their first community event as part of their official opening. The children have settled into their beautiful new school and are so pleased they now have their forever home, where their learning can help them EVOLVE into the people they will dream to be. A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey to this point and we are excited for the next chapter.”
CEO, Paul West also shared: “Everyone at Spencer Academies Trust are thrilled for the children, families and staff at Clover Leys Spencer Academy. Over the last few years so much planning, hard work and energy has been given by so many dedicated members of staff to bring their amazing new facilities to fruition. I look forward to seeing the school grow and thrive in the coming years.”
This marks the beginning of a wonderful new chapter for the children at Clover Leys and the Boulton Moor community!
Clover Leys Spencer is now open and accepting students for the new academic year. Parents interested in a place at the school are encouraged to visit the school’s website or contact the school office directly.
