Clover Leys Spencer earns "Good" in first ever Ofsted inspection
Ofsted inspectors rated Clover Leys Spencer Academy as “Good” in all areas, in its first ever inspection since opening in September 2021.
The report opens by praising the strong sense of family and growth felt in school: "The motto ‘growing together, learning forever’ could not be anymore appropriate for this new school." Inspectors also highlighted the "calm atmosphere that buzzes with positive energy" and the school's focus on developing a "family culture, with a big heart".
Clover Leys Spencer Academy, who have been sharing a site with sister school, Chellaston Fields Spencer Academy, will be moving to their brand-new school in Boulton Moor in September 2024. The school currently teaches children from EYFS through to Year 2.
Inspectors described the curriculum as “ambitious”, stating that it “sets out what pupils need to learn and when” and draws on the importance of reading in school: “reading is at the heart of all that the school does...teachers bring the characters to life which makes story time a joy.” Inspectors further acknowledged how Clover Leys Spencer "adapts teaching to support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) well."
As part of the visit, inspectors also look at parent feedback through discussions and responses to online surveys. One parent said, which was typical of many: “I feel my child is thriving in a safe and positive environment”.
Principal, Rebecca Chapman, was delighted with the report: “Our first Ofsted report is a credit to the children and the values that they live each day at Clover Leys Spencer Academy. The team of staff at our school go the extra mile to ensure that everyday is full of fun, laughter and learning. As we move to our new school on Boulton Moor in September, we know that the hard work does not stop here. Our journey of improvement will continue as we strengthen our partnerships with the local community and Spencer Academies Trust.”
Director of Primary Education, Kate Green, added, “We are thrilled that Clover Leys has secured a ‘Good’ grading in their first Ofsted inspection as a new school. The children, staff and parents are right to be proud as Clover Leys is a school with a strong ethos, where children really do ‘EVOLVE’ and truly love coming to school. We are all excited for the next chapter, as the school continues to grow and I know they can’t wait to move into their new building in September so they can become the centre of their community.”
Paul West, CEO of Spencer Academies Trust, said, “Clover Leys Spencer Academy is a young, but thriving school, providing high quality education and care for students and their community. I am delighted that this has been recognised by Ofsted. Staff, students and parents should feel rightly proud of their achievement.”
Congratulations to all at Clover Leys!
