Spencer Academies Trust welcomes new starters

Sue Pegg has joined the Trust as a project manager, having recently retired from Derbyshire County Council where she was responsible for pupil places planning and new schools. She also served in the Royal Air Force for 20 years and as a senior officer before joining the Derbyshire County Council in development.

As part of its ongoing mission to offer greater support across the Trust, the inclusion team have brought on Rachael Saunders as Director of Vulnerable Learners and Fiona Hallam as Head of Student Welfare Systems. Lydia Beer has also joined as an Academy Angel.

Director of Inclusion Sarah McAneny-Vincent said, “We are very happy to welcome Fiona, Rachael and Lydia to our team. With the additions of the roles of Director of Vulnerable Learners and Head of Student Welfare Systems, we will be able to continue advancing our work in inclusion to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and young people across our Trust, and the expertise offered by them all will prove indispensable along the way. As our newest Academy Angel, Lydia will join a team that offers vital support to our schools and the children learning in them.”

Rachael said, “I am incredibly excited and proud to be joining the central team at Spencer Academies Trust.  After working at Heanor Gate Spencer Academy, I know the Trust team, alongside the trust schools aim to build inclusive, equitable schools, with our young people at the heart of our decision making. I am motivated to ensure all schools allow our young people to succeed, giving them the skills to become their own advocates and allow them to thrive, both during their education, but also as adults.”

Fiona said, “I have extensive experience of working in special education and have developed my leadership skills over the last 5 years as a Designated Safeguarding Lead. I am really looking forward to working with all Academies across the Trust to learn and share, helping to achieve a gold star standard in relation to all things safeguarding for our children and young people.”

Within our schools, Dinah Crompton has started as a lead teacher of geography, having previously worked in a similar role at The Becket School. “I’m delighted to be appointed as the new Lead Geography Teacher at the Trust,” she said. “It’s an exciting opportunity to work with subject leaders and their to support the delivery of an outstanding Geography education across our secondary schools.”

Trust Director of Humanities Natalie Wyatt-Freeman said, “I am delighted to welcome Dinah Crompton into the Humanities director team. Dinah joins us after previously being at The Becket School and brings with her a wealth of experience of successful geography leadership which we are excited to utilise to develop humanities further across the Trust.”

Finally, the Spencer Alliance for Leadership and Teaching has welcomed Morag Ball to their apprenticeships team. Apprenticeships Operations Manager Sarah Kelly said, “Morag brings a wealth of experience supporting learners and schools, and we are thrilled to welcome her to our Apprenticeships team. With the momentum from our fantastic Ofsted inspection and Morag’s expertise behind us, we have a lot to look forward to in the coming year!”
