Millside Spencer Academy Site Manager receives UNISON Hidden Hero Award

Nik Peacock was nominated for the accolade in acknowledgement of his tireless dedication to the staff and pupils at the East Leake school. Nik Peacock, site manager at Millside Spencer Academy, has been awarded the Hidden Hero Award from UNISON.

Nominations for the award were open in November for “those who have gone above and beyond in making your school a safe and happy place for children to learn”. Mr Peacock was nominated by Bonnie Clift, a teaching assistant at the school, for his herculean efforts to build—literally and figuratively—a warm and welcoming environment in the new academy.

The supporting statement reads: “Over the past year, Mr Peacock has furnished, built, managed and maintained not just one school, but two. Millside Spencer Academy was only a field just over 12 months ago, where six empty temporary buildings were delivered. Many hours of hard work were put in to make the temporary buildings into a learning village for the start of the school year.

“Over the course of the year, Mr Peacock put his hand to anything that the teaching staff asked of him. He built a forest school area for all the children to thrive in, made all of the furniture for the classrooms and offices— the list is endless.

“One year on, the new permanent two-story building was completed, and in just over one week from getting the keys a 12-classroom building needed furnishing again. What Mr Peacock did in those days was nothing short of a miracle. The school looked fantastic for the children starting in September. He is also on the playground greeting the children every morning at 8:30 every day.”

UNISON is a national organisation with regional chapters that aims to improve society by building “fair, healthy and productive workplaces”.

Our sincerest gratitude and heartiest congratulations to Mr Peacock for his dedication to the Millside community.
