Spencer Academies Trust and Chetwynd Spencer celebrate opening of brand-new Multi-Use Games Area

Spencer Academies Trust and Chetwynd Spencer Academy are excited to announce the grand opening of Chetwynd Spencer’s new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) which officially opened at the end of last term. The state-of-the-art facility was unveiled on 18th December, with a special event that saw Nottingham Forest stars Anthony Elanga and Ola Aina join staff, students, and parents in celebrating this exciting milestone for the school.

The Spencer Academies Trust’s investment in the new MUGA will provide much-needed space for physical education (PE) lessons, sports clubs, and recreational play during break times. It will be an invaluable addition to the school, offering pupils a safe and versatile environment to engage in a variety of sports and activities. The facility can accommodate football, basketball, netball, and other popular sports, providing year-round opportunities for physical fitness and play.

On opening day, Anthony and Ola took part in a series of activities with the pupils. The event was a thrilling experience for all involved, as the professional footballers shared their expertise and inspired the next generation of athletes.

The MUGA will not only enhance the PE curriculum but also create a hub for extracurricular activities, supporting the school’s commitment to promoting health and wellbeing.

Principal, Lorraine Jackson, expressed her enthusiasm: “Our new MUGA has already provided the space required to carry out different sporting experiences such as Zorb football as part of our extended PE provision. We are utilising our new resource both as part of our curriculum and during break times when our Sports Leaders set up activities for all to get involved – we love it!”

Director of Primary Education, Kate Green, added: “We are thrilled with the new facilities at Chetwynd Spencer Academy. We know that the new space will make the educational experience at this exceptional school even more fulfilling for the children. It has been a pleasure to see them making the most of it already – full of smiles!”

Paul West, CEO of Spencer Academies Trust, also shared: “The opening of the MUGA represents a significant investment in the future of Chetwynd Spencer Academy and its pupils, setting the stage for greater achievements in sports, fitness, and well-being. The school looks forward to seeing the impact the new facility will have on its pupils and the wider community.”
