Spencer Academies Trust Hosts Year 13 Medicine Mock Interview Day
Five Spencer sixth forms came together to take part in a range of different scenario based mock interviews as part of a series of workshops across our Trust to prepare students for their future careers.
The day was designed to mimic the multi mini style interviews that medical schools now use. The students faced six different stations all with different scenarios which also included role plays, all of these stations were designed to test the knowledge and skills of the students, including empathy and communication.
This initiative was first introduced last year by our Executive Director of Post 16, Susan Sharp. Last years workshop resulted in 17 successful places for Medicine (up from 10th the previous year). This year we have recorded 35 of our students across the Trust applying for these highly competitive courses, which is amazing to see.
Executive Director of Post 16, Susan Sharp was delighted with the workshop: “We had staff supporting from all of our schools. This year we had a combination of Doctors, Vets and Dentists, the maturity they showed and the ability to demonstrate empathy when faced with difficult role plays was excellent.”
Susan Sharp added: “We wish them all good luck with their applications, the NHS will be in safe Spencer student hands”.
One of our students from Derby Moor Spencer who is interested in pursuing a career in Medicine, Aland Latif said: “I really enjoyed the different stations as they gave me important insights and will help prepare me for the real thing.”
Another student from Arnold Hill Spencer who is interested in pursuing a career in Veterinary, Tiffany Smalley said: “It was a great experience and gave me a strong idea of what interviews will be like as I had no prior experience.”
Tiffany added: “It made me more confident talking to people I do not know and gave me valuable interview experience”.
We wish you all the best of luck with your applications!
