Spencer Primary Pupil Parliament Kicks Off the 2024/25 School Year with First Meeting!
In November, the Spencer Academies Trust Primary Pupil Parliament kicked off its first meeting of the academic year, bringing together bright young minds from across the Trust's primary schools. The morning was filled with excitement as pupils gained a deeper understanding of what it means to be a part of this initiative. They also had the chance to bond with their steering group teammates from other schools, and later brainstorm ideas and map out exciting projects to bring positive change to their schools in the coming term!
Representing their peers, two pupils from each Spencer primary school join the Parliament, meeting once a term to tackle the issues that matter most to them, with steering groups focusing on key themes including the environment, community, teaching and learning, and SEND and inclusion.
Next term, the steering groups will be turning ideas into action with exciting projects to make a difference in their schools and communities!
The SEND & Inclusion group will be creating a “Kindness Wall” in every school. This special space will give pupils a safe place to share their worries, knowing they’ll be heard and supported by their friends and peers.
The Environment group has big plans to boost biodiversity in school outdoor spaces. By encouraging more wildlife, they’re making their schools greener! They’ll even be reaching out to local garden centres and businesses for plant donations to bring this vision to life.
Meanwhile, the Community group is spreading kindness beyond school walls. They’ll write heartfelt letters to residents in local care homes, building meaningful connections and making elderly neighbours feel part of the school community.
Last but not least, the Teaching & Learning group will be launching Mentor Clubs to help pupils feel supported in new and exciting ways! These clubs will give children a chance to work together, offering advice, encouragement, and a helping hand to classmates who might need a little extra support.
These projects show how young leaders can inspire change—and we can’t wait to see the impact!
