Chellaston Fields Spencer Academy appoint John Sheard as new Principal

Spencer Academies Trust are delighted to announce the appointment of John Sheard, as the new principal of Chellaston Fields.
Based in Chellaston, the academy first opened in September 2019 and recently celebrated the results of its first ever Ofsted inspection in which the school received a rating of “Good” across all categories.
On becoming the new Principal at Chellaston Fields, John said “It is with a feeling of privilege and excitement that I take on the role. Chellaston Fields has a sense of community and belonging that has been nurtured in the school community and I look forward to this continuing to grow.”
John joins our team of primary principals across Spencer Academies Trust’s 18 primary academies – “I also join the Spencer Academies Trust where I will glean every opportunity to learn new systems and processes whilst building further on the vast experiences I have had so far in my career. These have included leading a range of subjects and inter-school working groups, supporting in city-wide arts celebrations and working as an assistant and then deputy headteacher. The Spencer welcome has been warm and I, in turn, will support Chellaston Fields in its ongoing contribution and belonging to the wider Trust family.”
On John’s appointment Kate Green, Director of Primary Education at Spencer Academies Trust said “It is a pleasure to welcome John to Chellaston Fields Spencer Academy and more broadly into the Spencer family. He brings enthusiasm and knowledge to the team, and I look forward to seeing the school flourish as it continues to grow.”
Not only will this be a new school and role for John, it will also be a move to a new area after growing up and working in the West Midlands and city schools from the start of his teaching journey. “The move also brings me a little closer to Welford Road, and Leicester Tigers – hopefully I will now be able to get along to some of the games."
Outside of work, John is also an avid musician and lover of the arts – “I believe in children discovering what it is that motivates them and using this to develop self-worth, resilience and break through perceived barriers.”
